Gypsum
What is Gypsum?
Gypsum is the common name for calcium
sulphate dihydrate (CaSO4 · 2H2O). A natural mineral formed
from ancient ocean deposits, gypsum contains the
elements sulfur and calcium. Gypsum has many uses
including wallboard, cement, agricultural and
industrial fillers.What is Synthetic Gypsum?
Synthetic gypsum is produced at certain coal
fired power plants. Power plants with lime or
limestone scrubbers convert sulfur dioxide to
synthetic gypsum. This process decreases the
pollution into the environment through the
reduction of acid rain. Synthetic gypsum can be
substitued for natural gypsum in many products.
Synthetic Materials is leading the industry in
the processing and utilization of synthetic
gypsum.
