What is Synthetic Gypsum?
Synthetic gypsum is produced at certain coal fired power plants. Power plants with lime or limestone scrubbers convert sulfur dioxide to synthetic gypsum. This process decreases the pollution into the environment through the reduction of acid rain. Synthetic gypsum can be substitued for natural gypsum in many products.
